Home :: Fátima Region Fátima and the SanctuaryFatima at present is the main pilgrimage destination for the Portuguese and one of the most visited places of pilgrims in the world. Being one of the centers for international pilgrimage, it is considered as the "altar of the world". The presence of previous popes and in a special way Pope John Paul II gave the Sanctuary of Fatima a special importance. The hill of Cova da Iria, the Chapel of the Apparition, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the newly-built Church of Blessed Trinity are just some of the important places that a pilgrim must visit during his/her stay in Fatima. A pilgrim to Fatima must also visit the birthplace of the "three little shepherds" in Aljustrel. In this small village, one can see the houses turned museums of Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. Beside Lucia’s house, one can see the well where the apparition the Angel took place. Between the Sanctuary and Aljustrel, is a place called Valinhos. In this place, one can make the Station of the Cross. Fatima has three museums that are worthy to visit. Two museums feature generally the History of Fatima and the other one features sacred arts. CASA VERBO DIVINO is located at the northern rotunda of Fatima, a ten minute walk from the Sanctuary. |
